“The Highlight” provided another highlight reel KO on Saturday night against James Vick. Justin Gaethje stiffened Vick with a big overhand right. Vick fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes and wasn’t able to get back up. Gaetjhe managed to sneak in another punch before the ref could step in to stop the fight, that was probably due to tall the pre-fight trash talk.
Vick talked a big game before the fight and wasn’t able to back it up. Vick is an up and coming contender in the UFC lightweight division. Vick came into the Gaethje with a 9-1 record in the UFC. Perhaps Vick will keep his mouth shut for awhile after his devastating KO loss.
Gaethje’s 4 fight career in the UFC has a been a roller coaster, to say the least. He’s racked up a 2-2 record. The first three fights with Johnson, Alvarez, and Poirier were all fight of the year worthy, The Vick KO is KO of the year worthy.
Gaethje has provided us with a lot of great moments and violence, but for how long can he keep it up? Gaethje has admitted that his fighting style is not geared for long term success or personal health and realizes its pitfalls. We have never seen what a toned down Justin Gaethje even looks like, or if it even exists. Gaethje has always fought balls to the wall in wins and in losses.
It’s important to appreciate him while he’s here because with that kind of a fighting style you never know how long he could be around for. It was really great to see Gaethje get a win and not take much damage.
