Yair Rodriguez was released by UFC after refusing to fight Zabit Magomedsharipov and Ricardo Lamas. The report of the release came directly from UFC President Dana White. The move was still a surprise to many considering Rodriguez was on the promotions top prospects. Rodriguez should have offers from multiple suitors in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, I hope he signs with Bellator MMA.
Rodriguez hasn’t fought since May 2017 when he was defeated by Frankie Edgar via Doctor Stoppage. Rodriguez is best known for his highlight reel knocks outs and unique fighting style. Rodriguez has most recently defeated the ghost of BJ Penn. Rodriguez has never fought a ranked opponent in UFC. The release seems rather harsh for a fighter that just wants to have a say in his fighting career.
